Roaming around Rome

We recently spent a few days back in one of our favorite cities in Italy. Rome has so much to offer from cheap eats to historic roman monuments. You will never get tired of exploring this city.

How to travel around Rome and its suburbs
There are a few different sources of transport you can use to get yourself around Rome. If arriving into Rome Ciampino airport you can catch one of the few airport buses which will drive you directly from the airport directly to the Central bus station (Termini) The bus costs between 6 to 8 Euro per person one way. If you are wanting to use the local bus system to get around Rome, you can buy a ticket for 1.50 Euro per person which is valid for 100 hours. You then validate the ticket once you board the bus, you can buy these from the Termini station ticket machines or from local tobbaconist shops.

Things to do in Rome
Trevi Fountain – Located in central Rome (trevi district). Built in the 17th century the fountain is one of the most popular tourist attractions to visit and the most famous fountain in the world.
Pantheon – A former roman temple, now a church and home to the famous painter Raphael’s tomb.
Piazza Navona – Built upon the ancient site of Stadium of Domitian, features the fountain of the four rivers.
Piazza Venezia – Home to the famous marble monument honoring the first world war soldiers. Also providing an amazing panoramic views over Rome from the rooftop terrace.
Spanish Steps– Built in the 18th century, the steps have featured in many famous movies based in Rome. If heading to this area, make sure to come earlier or later in the day as it is one of the busiest tourist attractions in Rome.
Colossuem – One of the most famous tourist attractions in Rome. An ancient 3 story amphitheater which was once home to gladiator games. You can purchase tickets online through the official website https://www.coopculture.it/en/colosseo-e-shop.cfm , make sure to buy tickets well in advance as they do sell out.
Roman Forum – As part of your Colosseum ticket you will get entrance for the Roman Forum/Palantine Hill. The roman forum is home to ruins of several ancient roman government buildings.
Circus Maximus – Ancient Rome Chariot racing track, you can visit this for free.
Terrazza Del Pincio – Provides you with amazing views over Rome and a wonderful park at the back to walk through if wanting to escape all the tourists.
